How to Use Tags in BrandChamp?
Tags can be used in several areas in BrandChamp! Our advanced tagging system allows you to segment your ambassadors into groups and provide each group with different activities, rewards, and commissions, amongst other things.
In this guide, we will show you how to use the tagging and targeting feature in BrandChamp.
Let’s hop into it!
How to Create Tags in BrandChamp?
There are various places where you can create and apply a tag in BrandChamp.
When you go to add or create a tag in BrandChamp, you will see a drop-down list of available tags you can use:
BrandChamp doesn't have a central place for managing tags. Therefore, whenever you add or remove a tag, you need to review each section of BrandChamp to ensure the correct tags are applied to your BrandChamps and anywhere targeting is used.
Otherwise, without reviewing the tags and targeting you are creating/removing, you could remove or give access to commission, activities, and rewards not meant for that ambassador(s).
We will cover more on this later in the doc!
How to Create a New Tag?
For this example, we will create a tag from the BrandChamps table.
To create a tag, tick the boxes next to the names of the ambassadors you want to add to a tag. Then, hit the "Tag" down-down and select “Add Tag.”
A window will pop up for you to create your tag. Write your tag, then hit the “Add Tag” button (as seen in the image), or hit enter on your keyboard to create the tag.
You will know the tag has been created once it has a grey box around it. Once the tag is created, hit the “Apply Changes” button to add the tag to the selected ambassadors.
Remember, you can create as many tags as you would like here!
You can also bulk-add and remove tags from the BrandChamp table using the process above. When you bulk-add tags to a group of BrandChamps, you want to make sure you tick the box next to every ambassador you want to add to the tag before applying it to their accounts.
Outside of the BrandChamp table, you can apply tags in the “Targeting” section of the following areas:
- Activity Types
- Reward Types
- Discount Code Sets
- Referral Link Templates
- Knowledge Base Articles
Look for the “Targeting” section to apply or create a tag.
Create Tags for Content Categories
Outside of using tags to categorize your ambassadors, you can also use tags to categorize the content submitted by your ambassadors!
From the activities section of BrandChamp, you will find a “Tag” button next to each piece of submitted content. Hit the “Tag” button and then type the tag you want to add to the content.
Hit enter, or the “Add new tag” button to create the tag.
This helps you classify your content and will make it easy to search in the future.
You can filter for the tag by using the search at the top of the activity or gallery section in BrandChamp.
The Gallery in BrandChamp is a great way to browse all submitted content by ambassadors in your program. You can also filter by content tag here too to narrow down the Gallery.
Best Ways to Use Tags for Your Program
Tags can be a great tool to help you streamline your workflow and bring different types of ambassadors onto your program.
Using tags can help you create multiple programs in BrandChamp by providing each group you work with different activities, rewards, and commissions.
Here are some common tag use cases:
- Create a Tier Program: Many BrandChamp customers use the tag feature to create different tiers for their programs. Each tier unlocks more activities, better rewards, and a higher commission.
- Targeting Different Groups of People: Some brands use tags to distinguish between, (for example) customers, micro-influencers, and professions (such as athletes, dietitians, physicians, etc). This way, you can create different activities and rewards that make sense with each group.
- Using Tags for Content Categories: As discussed above, you can add tags to submitted content to quickly filter down your list of submissions. Using content tags can also help keep your team organized and allows you an easy way to access the content you want to repurpose (instead of scrolling through every submission, which could be a lot!)
What Should You Do if You Need to Change Tags for Your Program?
There could come a time when you want to change the tags you have created in your program.
Maybe you started your program by using the tags “customer” “affiliate” and “influencer” but would like to change to a tier program, thus needing to change everyone's tags.
If this is the case, there are a couple of things you will want to keep in mind, so let’s review this together.
What Happens When You Change Tags in Your Account
When you change a tag that is associated with an ambassador or group of ambassadors, they will lose access to everything that was tagged with the old tag, and unlock everything that is targeted with the new tag.
So before you change anyone's tag it’s important to review what they will unlock when they are added to the new tag, and what they will lose access to once the old tag is removed from their account.
Here are some things that could be affected after switching tags:
- Commission: Brands use tags to apply various commissions to their discount code sets and referral link templates. Before bulk-adjusting tags in your program, ensure that everyone who will get tagged with the new tag should unlock that commission.
- Automated Discount Code Sets: When you change tags, it’s important to check automated discount code sets, as removing ambassador tags that are linked to that discount code set can result in the creation or deletion of a discount code set. For more information, check out this support doc.
- Activities: You will also want to revise the activities that are targeted to specific tags and ensure that mass migrating tags won’t unlock specific activities for an ambassador who should not have access to them.
- Rewards: You will also want to check the rewards that are assigned to that tag. Double-check before migrating tags that all ambassadors will receive a new tag. should unlock the correct rewards.
- Knowledge Base Articles: Lastly, double check your knowledge base articles targeting to ensure the right copy of the content is targeted for the correct tags if you bulk change tags.
