Points Expiration

The Points Expiration feature gives you greater control over your rewards program by letting you set time limits on when earned points can be used before they expire.

This helps maintain a healthy and balanced rewards system, increases the perceived value of points, and encourages ambassadors to engage with the program more consistently.

What It Does?

  • Increases point value: When points have an expiration date, they become more valuable to ambassadors
  • Encourages regular engagement: Ambassadors check in more frequently to use points before they expire
  • Reduces accumulated liability: Prevents the buildup of large, unredeemed point balances
  • Provides flexible management: Configure expiration settings based on your program's specific needs

How It Works?

Expiration Timing

The expiration countdown begins on the 1st of the calendar month following activation. Ambassadors will see a countdown message starting from that date.

Points will begin expiring one month after the countdown starts, giving BrandChamps ample time to review their expiring points. Thereafter, on the 1st of each calendar month, any points older than the configured expiration period will automatically expire.

Example: If points are earned on April 10 and the feature is activated on April 11 with a one-month expiration period, the expiration countdown will begin on May 1. Ambassadors will start seeing the expiration notice in their app from that date.

Points will begin to expire on June 1, and any points older than the configured 1-month duration will be debited from Brandchamp’s balance.

Managing Expiration Settings

  • You can disable points expiry at any time
  • You can activate expiration temporarily to clear out old points before disabling it again

You can modify how old points must be before they expire (e.g., points can be set to expire at 6 months old rather than 3 months old)

Example: If points are earned on April 10 and the feature is activated on April 11 with a one-month expiration period, the expiration countdown will begin on May 1.

Ambassadors will start seeing the expiration notice in their app from that date.

How to Set It Up?

  • Must be on the Pro Plan or above

Setup Instructions

The Points Expiration feature can be configured under Settings → Rewards & Points at the bottom of the page. To enable the feature, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to your admin dashboard
  2. Select the Points Expiration feature under Settings → Rewards & Points
  3. Enable expiration by ticking the checkbox available
  4. Set a recurring expiration window between 1–12 months, after which points will automatically expire once they've aged
  5. Save the changes

How Ambassadors Are Informed About Expiring Points?

We've designed the Points Expiration feature with transparency in mind to ensure your ambassadors always know the status of their points.

When points expiration is enabled, ambassadors will see:

  • Expiry countdown: A clear display showing days remaining until points expire and the number of points that are set to expire so that ambassadors can use them up before the expiry.
  • Visibility on multiple screens: Expiration information appears on their:
    • Dashboard homepage
    • Rewards catalog page
    • Points balance page

This message, shown on multiple screens, ensures ambassadors can easily track which points will expire soon and plan their redemptions accordingly. The countdown display helps create urgency and encourages regular engagement with your program.

Q: Can I adjust the expiration duration?

A: You can modify how old points must be before they expire. However, you cannot modify the frequency. You can activate expiration temporarily to clear out old points before disabling it again
